Breakfast with the Monks @ the Monastery of Transfiguration

One of the best spots in Bukidnon that I suggest you to visit is the Monastery of Transfiguration.

The Monastery is located atop of the hill of Barangay San Jose, Malaybalay, Bukidnon which was founded by Fr. Abbot Eduardo Africa, OSB and is run by the Benedictine Monks. From the highway, it takes around 5 kilometers to go to the Monastery. That is about 8-10 minutes travel time.

The Monastery of Transfiguration is a best spot because:
1. The pyramid-liked-structure of the Monastery was designed by the National Artist for Architecture Leandro Locsin. The Monastery is actually one of his lasts and one of his well-famed work-of-art designs aside of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, and Davao International Airport.
2. The place is well-known for the Monk's Blend premium Coffee.
3. Having Mass with the Monastery's Boys Choir which was the Philippines' best children's choir.
4. The Museum of Transfiguration in which the clothing are designed by Doom Martin De Jesus Gomez, the famous fashion designer-turned into monk Gang Gomez.
5. Ofcourse, the famous Breakfast with the Monks which serves every second Sunday of the month.

Luckily, I experienced going to the mass with my girl (see the picture on the left side) while listening to the relaxing and rejuvenating voices of the Monastery's Boys Choir, and having the breakfast with the monks. It is actually a buffet breakfast.

My girlfriend even said that "The feeling while listening to the voices of the Monastery's Boys Choir is like you're in heaven. You experience a real peace of mind."

If you are from Cagayan de Oro and you wanted to attend the mass, I suggest that you should depart around 5am since it will take 2-3 hours going to the place. The mass will start at 8am.

The breakfast with the monks started at the price of P70.00 per person only. Yes, they started with that rate. During our trip, the price is P180.00 per person. Well, you will surely full your stomach since it is a buffet.

Touchdown:
* For tourists outside Bukidnon, you can actually visit the Monastery by negotiating a driver for a public vehicle which is around P300-500 at the Malaybalay Jeepney Terminal.
* If you are in Cagayan de Oro City, you can hire an air-conditioned van for P3,500-4000.00 depending on the rate of the driver.
* Or if you want to avail a tour package, Bohemian Express Travel and Tours Inc. has it, in which the breakfast with the monks tour package is every second Sunday of the month, it only costs P700.00 per person which includes buffet breakfast with the monks, mass at the Monastery of Transfiguration, Visit the Museum of Transfiguration, Air-conditioned Coaster with driver and fuel, and services of a Tour Coordinator.
