A relentless manifestation of the surging growth of the board-sport industry

(Northern Mindanao, Philippines)- The annual skim-boarding competition and the biggest skim-boarding tournament in Northern Mindanao dubbed as SHORE-BREAKS presented by Apple Tree Resort and Hotel successfully kicked off last May 20-21, 2017 at the Shore-line of the said Resort Hotel creating an all-out celebration of the board-sports action in the region.

3 Years strong and bolder! SHORE-BREAKS on its 3rd installment successfully returned and gathered enthusiasts, hobbyists, and professional skim-boarders from different municipalities in Northern Mindanao and the CARAGA region with 3 different categories namely, Kids, Advance, and Masters Categories. A crowd of spectators and visitors gathered to watch with no spur moment as the 38 official participants, 21 for the Kids Category, 8 for the Advance Category, and 9 for the Masters Category compete in full swing with their sets of the board-sports elements for this year’s title as the Ultimate Shore-breakers resulting to the most exciting Skim-boarding event by far in the region.

SHORE-BREAKS 3 was hosted and facilitated by Mr Steve Norman Ebonia, a professional skim-boarder and surfer opening the event with the Oath of Sportsmanship. The event was spare-headed by the award winning judges, Michael “Don” Magracia, Champion of the 1st Mati Surfing Competition and a Rider of the Northmind Longboarding, Richard “Sasik” Dela Cruz, Champion of the National Skimboarding competition 2008 held at Bacuag, Lanuza, Surigao del Sur, Champion of the 1st Lugait Skimboarding competition 2003), and Champion of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd National Skimboarding competition (2004, 2005, 2006) held at Mergrande Ocean Resort, Davao City, and Isidore “Sidoy” Ebonia, 1st Runner Up, Open El-Kapitan Skim-boarding Competition at El Salvador City May 2004, 2nd Runner Up of the 1st Sundayag Sa Sea-Wall Skim-boarding Competition at Oroquieta City May 2005.

Lester Rosal, a Skim-boarder from Opol announced as the Champion for the Kids Category
Out of the 21 official participants for the Kids Category, only 12 went to the finals on Day 2. Crismar Lariosa, a local skim-boarder from the Municipality of Opol gathered an over-all 51.34 points for the 7 final sets and was announced as the 2nd Runner Up (Rank 3). Crismar, the Champion of the SHORE-BREAKS 2 Competition was dethroned by his last year’s opponent. Curt Gaabucayan on the other hand was announced as the 1st Runner Up (Rank 2) after pulling off an over-all 53.00 points on the 7 final sets. Lester Rosal also known as “Panoy” by his peers was announced as the Ultimate Shore-breaker for this year’s Kid Category after defeating the finalists and showing an impressive sets resulting to 54.67 over-all points.

For the Advance Category, the 9 finalists showcased their finest sets on the Finals. War Padiala, a skim-boarder from Iligan City was announced as the 2nd Runner Up (Rank 3) after folding an over-all 48 points during the final sets. John Michael Tawakal, a local skim-boarder from Opol was announced as 1st Runner Up (Rank 2) with 49 over-all points while Daykie Yana, also a local skim-boarder from Opol dominated the Advance division with his outstanding style and was declared as the Ultimate Shore-breaker for the Advance Category gathering an over-all 50.34 points.

For the Masters Category, the 8 professional finalists from different places competed for this year’s title. RJ Edrozo, a professional Skim-boarder from Opol, was announced as the 2nd Runner Up (Rank 3) after showing his mastery skills resulting to an over-all 56 points. Dingdong Lagmay, a skim-boarder from Iligan City on the other hand crafted an impressive 60.67 over-all points and was announced as the 1st Runner Up.

Christian Quitat, a Professional Skim-boarder from Iligan City announced as the Champion for the Masters Category
Christian Quitat, a skim-boarder from Iligan City was announced as the Champion for the Masters Category pulling a remarkable 65.34 over-all points. Christian successfully solidified his skim-boarding career for 3 years straight; announced as the 1st Runner Up (Rank 2) for the Open Category during the Shore-breaks 2 Competition and was placed on the 2nd spot (Rank 3) during the 1st Shore-Breaks Tournament. Christian is better known to use the Flat Backside 180 degrees and/or Flat Frontside 180 degrees combining some Frontside Shuvits.
Dingdong Lagmay, a Professional Skim-boarder from Iligan City, announced as the 1st Runner Up (Rank 2)
for the Masters Category
Jelson Ortiz, a professional Skim-boarder from Tandag City, Surigao del Sur garnered an over-all 55.67 points on the Masters Category putting him on the 3rd spot (Rank 4). Nonetheless, he was awarded with the Best Trick Award.

Creativity – 40%
Difficulty – 30%
Smoothness – 20%
Audience Impact – 10%
