2nd Kagayhaan Gold Cup Dragon Boat Competition 2017

Presented by the Junior Chamber International (JCI) Kagayhaan Gold, Inc., in partnership with Liceo de Cagayan University, the 2nd Kagayhaan Gold Cup Dragon Boat Competition will officially commence on August 11-12, 2017 at the Cagayan River, Cagayan de Oro City with this year's theme "Peace Is Possible".

The event which was officially launched last 2016 was conceptualized as a platform to create awareness to the sport, aiming on bringing together young people all over the country to celebrate peace, friendship, camaraderie, and healthy competition. It was created to advocate environmental concerns regarding waterways in Mindanao, promoting awareness through protection and conservation initiatives, as well as bring in additional tourist attraction to the City.

Owen Jaen, the Race Director said that the 2nd installment of the Kagayhaan Gold Cup Dragon Boat Competition is expected to be bigger and better as compared last year, drumming up public awareness with different teams competing for the ultimate title as Champions for the 6 categories.

Expected teams from different part of the country (and is open for international participants) will be competing in the following six (6) categories:

- 200m Men (Standard Boat)

- 200m Mixed (Standard Boat)

- 200m Women (Half-Boat)

- 500m Men (Standard Boat)

- 500m Mixed (Standard Boat)

- 500m Women (Half-Boat)

Each of the participating teams will be composed of 22 persons for the Standard Boat, and 12 persons for the Half-Boat although Race Officials might be requesting to load only 20 persons for a standard race for safety concerns.

As part of the Opening Rites, the KG Gold Cup Race is inviting everyone to take part in a ceremony of giving back life to the river as a way of expressing gratitude to the Almighty for the chance to race, to be united, and to show peace.

Aside of the official Dragon Boat Race, the 2nd installment prepared additional activities such as the Dragon Boat Seminar Workshops (By invitation) by Edwin Hou, an IDBF Senior Race Official from Stanley Dragon Boat Association (HK), CDO Riverbank Clean Up, and more.
